About Daniel Quinlan
I'm a videographer, now based in Paris after living in Southeast Asia for a decade shooting news, features, and documentary.

My passion for visual storytelling has allowed me to work on a diverse range of issues; from protest movements and corruption to the environment and development issues, with some of the world's most respected media and non-governmental organizations.

I first moved to Asia to work for a human rights organization in Nepal before following my partner to a small town on the Thai-Burma border. There, I started working on my photography, helped edit a Burma focused news site, and got my start in video as an assistant to a documentary filmmaker.

After two years on the border, I landed a job as a videographer for the Phnom Penh Post and moved to Cambodia in 2013. For the next two and a half years, I covered elections, protest movements, crackdowns, murder, and everything fit for a daily news organization.

Since then, I’ve worked in just about every media role, collaborating with some incredible people and organizations; from reporting live on-air for France 24, to feature writing and investigation for The Age and being a website editor.

Freelancing allowed me to continue with news as the videographer and editor for the Bangkok based foreign correspondent Martin Lowe, while also crafting feature and advocacy narratives for international organisations and news agencies such as the World Bank, CNN, and Amnesty International, on a wide array of issues covering labour, development and human rights.

Over the years my work has led me to win a number of Awards in photography and news reporting including:
-
2016 Finalist Lowy Institute Media Award - Unaoil Investigation. Best Creative Content Competition (2020) for The Bribe Factory.
-
2015 Honourable Mention. The SOPA Awards for Editorial Excellence in Reporting Breaking News.
-
2014 Nominated for the fifth cycle of the Prix Pictet Photo Awards for "A Load of Rubbish."
-
2014 Highly Commended. Best Photojournalism category of the Ossie Awards for "A Load of Rubbish".
